satisfied as regards the following two prepositions:-

{a} Whatever works may be constructed, ships

must get into the open away from wharves during

typheens.

(b)

Except during typhoons, ships san at all

times lie with safety at wharvas in any part of the

Harbour.

Our designs are based on these two propositions.

34. As regards (5) mod (4), we consider the facilitiss

for the supply of the materials mentioned are much more

favourable than in many ports. The supply of unskilled

and to a certain extent skilled labour is satisfactory, and

the cost of sub-contract work does not appear axéensive.

with reference to (5), we need only say that we

sensider the facilities are better than at any other pert

in the Bant with which we are connected.

We bave recently ressived through your Department

copy of a letter from the Director of Public Works to the

Colonial Secretary, Hong Kong, dated 26th August, 1922,

forwarding a report by XF. J.Dunean, H.Inst.C... with

accompanying plans and documente giving particulars of the

survey work recently undertaken at our request. We have

also received four bexa" containing samples of borings.

The information received is not quite complete but the

documenta to hand include the general survey plan with

soundings, current observations and a series of areas

sections on which are marked lines showing approximate

levels of hard material as derived from the berings and

also from prickings. We would like here te express our

appreciation of the oare which appears to have been taken

in collecting the information and of the very clear MEANET

in which it has been recorded.
